Angelina Jolie has announced where her daughter Zahara will be attending college.

The Academy Award-winning actress, 47, shared Sunday that 17-year-old Zahara will attend Spelman College, a historically Black liberal arts college for women based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Alongside a group photo of her daughter with several peers, the actress penned a congratulatory message.

“Zahara with her Spelman sisters!” she wrote. “Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl.”

Jolie added #spelman #spelmancollege #spelmansisters #HBCU to the post.

Jolie shares Zahara with ex-husband Brad Pitt. The two are also parents to Maddox, 20; Pax, 18; Shiloh, 16; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 14.

Although their children mostly stay out of the spotlight, Jolie did share a snap with Zahara last year during their trip to Washington, D.C., to advocate for the Violence Against Women Act. The actress has spoken out in support of the legislation on many occasions.

Spelman College, a private school, is part of the Atlanta University Center academic consortium, which aside from Spelman College includes Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and the Morehouse School of Medicine.

It is the oldest private HBCU liberal arts college for women in the U.S. and boasts an impressive list of alumnae, including Pulitzer prize-winning novelist Alice Walker, politician Stacey Abrams, opera singer Mattiwilda Dobbs, lawyer and CEO of The King Center Bernice King (Martin Luther King Jr.‘s youngest child), civil rights activist Dovey Johnson Roundtree and actress Keshia Knight Pulliam.

Kevin Bacon has officially joined in on the TikTok Footloose challenge.

The actor, who played Ren McCormack in the 1984 classic, shared a video of himself trying the viral dance challenge with his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, on Tuesday.

“I don’t remember this being part of the original #Footloose choreography but figured we’d give it a spin,” he captioned the clip.

The challenge is set to the film’s theme song of the same name by Kenny Loggins.

It’s unclear when the dance sequence became a popular trend on the platform but fans loved Bacon’s attempt at it.

“Just like that, I’m back in high school in 1984,” one user commented. Bacon himself liked the comment.

Peta Murgatroyd opens up about fertility struggles after three miscarriages

Rodin Eckenroth/Getty Images

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are opening up about their experience with fertility struggles.

In a new interview with People, Murgatroyd revealed she has suffered three miscarriages in the last few years, including one in October 2021 when Chmerkovskiy was in Ukraine working as a judge on the country’s version of Dancing with the Stars.

The pro dancer and her husband are parents to five-year-old son Shai and said they have wanted to give their son a sibling for years.

Murgatroyd said she suffered her first miscarriage in 2020 in a Whole Foods bathroom. She said she felt “completely embarrassed” and “ultimately ashamed” at the time.

“I definitely wanted to keep my miscarriages a deep dark secret for the rest of my life,” Murgatroyd said.

“I’m somebody who prides herself on health wellness,” she said. “I exercise every single day. But as I came to realize, that doesn’t really go hand-in-hand with the reproductive system.”

Despite the stigma surrounding pregnancy loss and the shame many say they feel after experiencing one, miscarriages are not uncommon. A 2021 study in the peer-reviewed medical journal The Lancet found that an estimated 23 million miscarriages occur every year worldwide. “Psychological consequences” of pregnancy loss can include “increases in the risk of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and suicide,” according to the study.

Murgatroyd told People that she has since been diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS — a common hormone abnormality that affects 6% to 12% of women of reproductive age in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The couple is now starting IVF, and Murgatroyd says she is in “a much happier place” because she finally “got answers.”

“For the first time in nearly two years, I feel excited,” she said.

John Cena surprises nonverbal fan who fled Ukraine with family

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Warner Bros. Discovery

WWE star and on-screen superhero John Cena made a real-life heroic effort to surprise a super fan who escaped the war in Ukraine.

Misha Rohozhyn and his family recently fled Mariupol after their home was destroyed amid the ongoing war. Liana Rohozhyn took her son, who has Down syndrome and is nonverbal, using the excuse that they were fleeing their home to see his hero.

It wasn’t true, of course — until Cena made it happen.

“When I read about Misha’s story, it reached out to me. Not just Misha’s story but Misha’s mom as well,” Cena said in an interview with WWE.

Cena, already in Europe for work, made a quick trip to Amsterdam, where Misha and his family have relocated to just outside the city. The superstar spent the afternoon with the boy building blocks, eating cake and getting him decked out in Cena’s “You Can’t See Me” gear. He even gave Misha his own replica WWE championship belt.

Seeing his hero in person brought a joyous and tearful response from Misha.

“Misha’s ability to embrace persistence. That’s extraordinary. Those words ‘never give up,’ we’ve all thought about those in our life, they’re very powerful and I think Misha is a great example,” Cena said. “Misha’s mom, they’re two great examples of how persistence can lead to joy even during the toughest of times.”

Ellen Pompeo defends Katherine Heigl’s past remarks on the “crazy” schedule of Grey’s Anatomy

Richard Cartwright/Disney General Entertainment Content via Getty Images

(NOTE LANGUAGE) Ellen Pompeo is opening up about the time commitment Grey’s Anatomy has required over the years, and her former co-star Katherine Heigl‘s previous remarks about it.

While speaking with her Grey’s co-star Kate Walsh on a recent episode of the Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo podcast, the actresses discussed the long hours the cast and crew have devoted to the show, and how that’s changed over the years.

“I’m very lucky now with my schedule on Grey’s, I get to cut back and overall I’m happy for the production as a whole because we have cut back tremendously,” Pompeo said. “I mean, back in the day we used to do crazy, crazy hours and that alone will make you insane.”

Pompeo then referenced comments their former co-star Katherine Heigl, who portrayed Dr. Izzie Stevens on the show, made about her time working on the medical drama.

“I remember Heigl said something on a talk show about the insane hours we were working but she was 100 percent right,” Pompeo said. “And had she said that today, she’d be a complete hero. But she’s ahead of her time — made a statement about our crazy hours and of course, let’s slam a woman and call her ungrateful.’”

“When the truth is, she’s 100 percent honest and it’s absolutely correct what she said and she was f****** ba**sy for saying it,” the actress continued. “She was telling the truth. She wasn’t lying.”

Heigl, who famously left the series during its sixth season in 2010, decried the medical drama’s work hours during a 2009 appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman.

She called “a seventeen-hour day…cruel and mean,” adding, “I’m going to keep saying this because I hope it embarrasses them…”

John Travolta remembers his late son Jett on what would’ve been his 30th birthday

Rogers and Cowan via Getty Images

John Travolta shared an Instagram tribute to his late son Jett to mark what would’ve been his 30th birthday on April 13.

“My dearest Jetty, I miss you more than words can say,” John wrote, alongside a photograph of him and Jett. “I think about you everyday. Happy Birthday. Love, your Dad.”

Jett died in January 2009 at the age of 16 after suffering a seizure at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas. John Travolta’s attorney at the time said Jett “had seizures in the past.”

John and late wife Kelly Preston‘s second child, Ella, 22, commented on her father’s tribute, “Happy Birthday Jetty, we love you so much.” Travolta’s post was also flooded with love and support from friends and fans.

John often shares tributes to Jett and discusses his impact during interviews.

During a 2021 appearance on Hart to Heart, Kevin Hart‘s talk show, the Grease actor discussed how he has spoken about death with his youngest child, 11-year-old Benjamin.

“He said to me once, ‘Because mom passed away, I’m afraid you’re going to,'” the actor recalled about Benjamin to Hart. “I said, ‘Well, it’s a very different thing.’ And I went through the differences about my longevity and her limited life.”

He said he then told his youngest, “You know, Ben, you always love the truth, and I’m gonna tell you the truth about life. Nobody knows when they’re gonna go or when they’re gonna stay…your brother left at 16 — too young. Your mother left at 57 — that was too young. But who’s to say?”

John concluded by telling Ben, “So let’s look at life…it’s part of life, you see? You don’t know exactly. You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can.”

Author, essayist and screenwriter Joan Didion dead at 87

Jemal Countess/Getty Images

Revered journalist and author Joan Didion died Thursday at her home in New York City due to complications from Parkinson’s disease, her longtime publisher confirmed to ABC News.

She was 87 years old.

Didion was known as one of most incisive writers of her time, penning screenplays, novels and works of nonfiction, including two books about her own personal losses: The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights.

“Joan was a brilliant observer and listener, a wise and subtle teller of truths about our present and future. She was fierce and fearless in her reporting. Her writing is timeless and powerful, and her prose has influenced millions,” her editor, Shelley Wanger, said in a statement.

Wanger added, “We will mourn her death but celebrate her life, knowing that her work will inspire generations of readers and writers to come.”

Born in Sacramento, Didion was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and went on to live in New York City, where she launched her career as a journalist. Her first book, Run River, was published in 1963; other novels included A Book of Common Prayer, Democracy and The Last Thing He Wanted.

The next year, Didion married fellow writer John Gregory Dunne, who became her longtime collaborator. Together, they worked on screenplays for The Panic in Needle Park, Play It As It Lays — based on her novel of the same name — and A Star Is Born, among others. In 1967, they adopted their daughter, Quintana Roo.

Didion was also known for being a prolific essayist who published several works of nonfiction, including Slouching Towards Bethlehem and The White Album, among many others. However, it was her memoir about Dunne’s death, The Year of Magical Thinking, that earned her the National Book Award for Fiction in 2005.

After Quintana Roo died of acute pancreatitis, Didion wrote a companion book, Blue Nights, which was published in 2011. Her latest book, Let Me Tell You What I Mean, came out just this year.

Didion was a 2013 recipient of the National Medal of Arts and Humanities.

Jennifer Aniston on “hurtful” assumption that she “chose career over kids”

ABC

Fans could hardly wait to see the cast of Friends reunite for the 2021 HBO Max special, but for Jennifer Aniston, filming was more emotionally complicated than she anticipated.

The actress told The Hollywood Reporter that she was “so naive” to think that revisiting that time in her life would be easy.

At times during filming, Aniston got so overwhelmed that she “had to walk out,” she said.

“It was like, ‘Hi, past, remember me? Remember how that sucked? You thought everything was in front of you and life was going to be just gorgeous and then you went through maybe the hardest time in your life?'” she recalled. “It was all very jarring.”

Aniston, 52, starred in Friends from 1994 until 2004, a time during which tabloids made much ado about her relationship with actor Brad Pitt, from whom she split in 2005. Although she did not get into specifics in the THR interview, Aniston did tell the publication that while she appeared on comedy series, her expectations for her personal life “sort of shape-shifted.”

Ultimately, her reaction to the media’s obsession with her also evolved.

“I used to take it all very personally — the pregnancy rumors and the whole ‘Oh, she chose career over kids’ assumption. It’s like, ‘You have no clue what’s going with me personally, medically, why I can’t … can I have kids?'” she said. “They don’t know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty.”

Now, however, Aniston is grateful to have had all of the experiences that have come her way, good and bad.

“Everything’s a blessing if you’re able to look at life’s ups and downs in that way,” she said. “If it all hadn’t happened, I would not be sitting here the woman that I am.”
